The Erasmus Mundus EMMIR Scholarship Opportunity (European Master in Migration and Intercultural Relations) is a 2-year Master’s Degree program for post graduate student who wishes to gain more knowledge in the field of migration studies. The program will base the First Semester in Oldenburg, Germany, the Second Semester in Stavanger, Norway.

The programme is fully accredited since 2013; EMMIR graduates are awarded a joint degree. They will have gained profound theoretical and methodological knowledge in the field of migration studies, complemented by in-depth expertise depending on their specific disciplinary perspective and their focused area of migration.
In cooperation with numerous actors and institutions in the field, students will probe themselves in specific labour market segments, thus actively linking the contents and goals of the study programme to potential professional specialisations. Graduates will have been exposed to a specific labour market segment including specific experiences in a project-based manner and will also be able to actively link the study programme and their specific specialisation to the working world. This will aid EMMIR graduates to work in both academic and non-academic environments.
Student mobility is one of the programme’s crucial features. The two-year programme begins in Oldenburg, Germany. In the second semester, all students move to Stavanger, Norway and in the third semester, students attend the partner university of their choice, they complete courses and a project-based internship. Before the final semester, a joint proposal colloquium leads to the formation of supervision groups continuing in the fourth semester in order to support the research and thesis writing.

Erasmus Mundus EMMIR Scholarship 2025 Requirement
- First degree in a field related to migration studies such as Social sciences, Educational sciences, Cultural studies, Development Studies, History, Law, Economics and Journalism.
- The final grade of the first degree must be a minimum of C+ and proven by certificates. You are expected to provide documentation of a final first degree by the deadline (a transcript showing that all exams necessary to complete the programme is accepted).
- Last degree obtained should not be older than 5 years. If it is older, please make sure to explain in your statement of purpose why you chose to go back to university.
- You are not eligible to benefit from the EMMIR scholarship if you have already benefited from the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master (EMJM) scholarship.
- You must demonstrate proficiency in English if your native language isn’t English or your undergraduate institution wasn’t operated with English Language.
